This is a design I thought up recently for the biblical angel Michael. For some reason I felt like doing it in Illustrator, and since I'd never tried such a large and detailed picture in Illustrator before it took alot longer than expected. If I had to guess I'd say I put in a total of around 10-12 hours, though I made alot of changes in the design along the way. I must say it was a very interesting and fun project, but I'm glad to be done with illustrator for now...heheh I'll be making a full color image for this guy in the next few weeks, complete with scenary and everything, so until then enjoy the lineart
Oh dude... that's just incredible. I really gotta make myself learn Illustrator better. I gave up too easily. XD; I'm just used to the PS methods.
would you know of a good Illustrator lineart tutorial? It's ironic, because I get asked how I make my lineart... but.. damn. It just doesn't compare to the complexity and consistancy of this. I hope you do this lineart the justice in colouring it deserves.
Thx! I'll definately do it justice, I've been working on my digital coloring style and it should look good whenever I manage to finish it, though it may be in a couple of weeks (busy life, meh...)
As for the tutorials, can't say I know of any because I just figured it out on my own. Goofing around with the pen tool is the key to my success, and probably the main reason it took so dang long to finish this piece, there were a good 20 or so layers in it, each having multiple groups, with well over 1000 individual paths in all. It was a slow process at times, and I wouldn't recommend doing it very often, heheh. I'll probably just use it to clean up lineart in the future rather than create it.

Mkay. I basically learn everything from experimenting aswell. I was looking really hard for the equvilent of the Freeform Pen, but could only find the 'normal' one which only uses the anchor points to vary the curves. If that's the only way to use the pen tool, well I guess I'll stick to lineart in PS. I'll be looking forward to your colouring job, definately.
I would just like to say "HOLY SHIZNIT" this is awsome. I am glad that you finally got the lineart done. I am sure it is going to rock even more once it is colored!

Yea, to my knowledge the anchor points are the only way to do it, but there are ways to manipulate the anchor points so that it works pretty well, just takes time and patience to perfect the technique I guess.
I'll try to get it colored soon ^_^
