Colorful enough?
This photo collage of the Brandenburg Gate represents the contrast, or “gate,” between East and West Berlin, because there's a much higher presence of street art and artistic expression in East than in West due to the cultural influences of the countries controlling each side during the Cold War. The Allied forces kept the West half clean and orderly, so even today there is a very low tolerance for graffiti or sticker art. The East side was corrupted and left to decay while in the hands of the Soviet Union, and even after the reunification of the two parts of the city, there is still a much higher level of poverty and rebellious attitude to the East. This piece is meant to represent the vibrancy of street art present in the East side of Berlin, as a contrast to the somewhat less interesting “clean” West side of Berlin.
